About Gemma Clarke Photography

Candid and natural moments captured for couples wanting a relaxed and fun wedding day.

Gemma Clarke Photography comprises of me, Gemma Clarke – I am the photographer, the customer service manager, the editor and the album designer. I am the only one you will deal with in the whole process. I started photographing weddings in 2007.

I believe strongly in offering personalised service to ensure your wedding images truly reflect who you are. I have a big heart and love getting to know who you are and your love story. You can rely on me. I can’t help myself; I treat your wedding as if it was my own. I have backup plans for your images, my camera equipment and for me too. Should the unthinkable happen to me then I have a strong relationship with many photographers who offer a similar style so your wedding photography will always be in safe hands.

I have been an accredited photographer with the Australian Institute of Photography (AIPP) for 10 years. I have won eight AIPP awards but the award I treasure most was created by one of my clients using her amazing artistic collage skills. The award hangs proudly in my showroom which is part of my home.

I am friendly. I have been told I am very approachable, easy to be around and seamlessly blend in with the guests. I love it when the mums and dads come up to me at the end of the day to tell me this 🙂

Since 2018 I have specialised in photographing small weddings and elopements. I offer shorter wedding day coverage (up to 6 hours) for smaller weddings only. I am based in south west Sydney in the lovely bushland suburb of Picnic Point.

Candid and natural moments captured for couples wanting a relaxed and fun wedding day.

About Gemma

I may be a little different to other photographers as my background is not in photography. I didn’t ‘grow up with a camera in my hand’. My focus from when I was young was always wanting to do things for others and seeing their joy.

After completing my Bachelor of Business degree at UTS I worked in Marketing and PR for not-for-profit organisations and loved promoting such good causes! When working for an animal welfare organisation I discovered my talent for capturing a great photo. I started receiving tips from a local paper photographer each week. It all snowballed when my images were published in magazines and my sister asked me to photograph her wedding in 2007. There was no turning back after experiencing the adrenaline from a wedding day and the joy I witnessed of my clients seeing their images. In 2009 I went full-time with Gemma Clarke Photography.

I limit the number of weddings I photograph each year so I can offer the personalised attention that you and your wedding deserve. Your enjoyment of the day and feeling relaxed are my priorities so you will receive photos of truly candid and natural moments captured beautifully.

Approach to Elopements

Other than being relaxed, I do not have a certain style of wedding or elopement I capture. My clients celebrate in many ways – I love and encourage this! From somewhere in the bush or countryside to the urban streets to the beach to a suburban backyard.
I feel my unique personality to adapt to couples differing needs helps to personalise your photos even more. Most of my couples are a little shy in front of the camera so I make sure my style will help you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Planning a wedding can be very stressful so I am here to offer advice when you need it. I want to help take the pressure off you. We can talk about the best lighting for your ceremony and photos and how much timing is required to make sure your day stays relaxed so you can truly enjoy every moment! I am here whenever you need me and very responsive to emails.

Fun Facts

I love animals – cats, dogs, red pandas, highland cows, everything really – even the ones I am scared of!

I only started drinking coffee last year after caring Italian Grannies made stovetop percolator espressos for me at their AirBnbs. Now I can only have coffee in this way.

Italy is my favourite country to visit but I do love so many European countries!

When I travel, I love to go to the little villages that are off the tourist route.

My husband and I are opposites – this has taught me patience but also appreciation to celebrate our differences! We have been together for 22 years and counting 🙂

I am an early bird.
I have a strong connection with Finland through my pen friend and have visited 10 times in 10 years!

I only have one tattoo and it is a Finnish word – Sisu

I have been ice swimming twice (crazy I know!)

I love Nordic mini-series dramas

I love wool Nordic blankets and have sacrificed lots of room in my luggage to bring them home!

I may be a little obsessed with Jamie Fraser from Outlander – I am such a romantic <3

I love bright colours especially red and yellow.

Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) from the Marvel Series I believe is an amazing role model for women. I may have purchased the exact red sunglasses she wears in the series. I am a sucker for retro styling!

Testimonials

Far exceeded our expectations
Kevin’s thoughts: “Gemma will really take away any awkwardness you might feel about being in front of a camera. She has a way about her that makes you feel relaxed, so that you can focus on celebrating the start of your marriage and less on the details of your wedding.
We encountered several obstacles caused by the COVID-19 restrictions. It wasn’t the wedding that we had originally planned, but Gemma helped us plan and capture it in a genuine way that far exceeded our expectations. Thank you sooooo much Gemma! Nathan and I could not have imagined it going any other way. It was perfect for us!”

Nathan’s thoughts: “We got married as the COVID-19 restrictions were ramping up, which meant our plans changed several times and there was a chance our wedding wouldn’t happen. Gemma was our wedding cheerleader who enthusiastically joined us on our journey to make our ceremony happen. Her flexibility and positive attitude made a huge difference. Gemma is someone who genuinely cares about ensuring your wedding is as special a day as it can be. She wants to understand what’s important to you and goes above and beyond in her work. And, most importantly, she gave us some beautiful photographs that we’ll treasure forever!”

Hire Gemma RIGHT NOW!
“I won’t lie, the only thing I was slightly nervous about during the whole wedding planning process was finding the right photographer. There are so many out there, it’s not a small expense and if the photos aren’t amazing, it can leave you super very disappointed. After all, other than a ring and a new husband/wife the photos are the big thing you take away from the day!

In saying all that, if you are reading this, hire Gemma RIGHT NOW! She is sooo organised, easy going (yet professional), makes you feel at ease right away AND captures the most spectacular images! Every time we look at our photos we are taken right back to each moment and get to experience it again! We really had the best day of our lives and it was very much topped off by having Gemma there!”

“We are so happy with the photos
“We are so happy with the photos, which capture the day in a way that really reflects who we are and how we experienced it. Further, Gemma was an absolute delight to deal with and genuinely very helpful with tips and ideas in the lead up and on the day. She was and continues to be very responsive to emails and questions. Gemma strikes the perfect balance between organising those photos you want to frame and put on the wall (you know the ones), and being a ‘fly on the wall’ capturing those real and candid moments you want to remember forever.”
