capture the real moments, then stepping up and guiding you when the time is right, my aim is to tell
the story of your day whilst adding some creativity and fun.

About

My name is Chris and I started Underatreehouse Photography in 2010, the same year I met my wife in Sydney. After travelling and exploring the world, photographing many incredible places, it was time to put down some roots. I was fortunate enough to do that in one of the most gorgeous cities in the world. We have since moved our family north to the Central Coast for that laid-back beach lifestyle but I love to keep exploring and am always honoured and humbled by the places this job takes me.

After being a part of many Weddings and Elopements over the last 15 years, I have realised that it is the smaller, more intimate celebrations that I connect with the most. I love the intentionality of an Elopement. It’s you and just the people who really mean the most to you, creating an experience that is truly authentic to you. Being chosen to be a part of your intimate celebration is something extra special!

Approach to Elopements

Couples choose an Elopement over a ‘large’ Wedding for a variety of reasons. Maybe you don’t like being the centre of attention, maybe you want to travel to some far-flung destination, maybe you don’t connect with the over-the-top traditions associated with the larger wedding, or maybe you see more authenticity in an experience that is intimate and heartfelt. Whatever your reason for choosing to keep things small, there is one thing that is consistent when it comes to your photography: the opportunity for you are and your photographer to be build a closer and stronger bond, free from the distraction of them having to capture lots of people and watch out for things happening all over the place.

It’s for this reason that I genuinely love to be a part of an Elopement or Intimate Wedding. Having the time remove myself a little and observe discreetly, whilst also building trust with you allows me the chance to find quiet moments of connection that it’s very hard to do on a busy wedding day.

My advice is too consider the opportunities you have to create a day, or even a series of days, that is both significant and authentic to you. Try to avoid the notion that an Elopement is just about the ceremony and a few pictures afterwards and design an experience that you will look back on and cherish forever.

My approach is to take the time to build trust and confidence, step up and inspire you when you want it, but also step back and allow you the freedom to be yourselves, looking for small moments that build the bigger picture. I hope that you will come away from your experience with me with the feeling that the day was more enjoyable because I was there because when there is nobody else is around to distract you, the person you choose to be a part of this intimate time with you is a big deal. It’s something that I both honour and cherish.
