About Old Courthouse Fremantle
Set in the heart of historic Fremantle, The Old Courthouse has recently reopened after extensive renovations. The two original courtrooms offer private function spaces, great for ceremonies and receptions. The newly built Pavilion opens out onto the garden and is a wonderful setting for drinks, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Our ceremony package offers a 45 minute exclusive use of the Civil Courtroom, suitable for 2 people to 80 people. This includes your celebrant, up to 30 bentwood chairs (with plenty of space for standing behind), a signing table and floral decorations.
After your ceremony you are welcome to celebrate with your guests with a glass (or two…) of bubbles in the Civil Courtroom. Alternatively you might prefer to move into our Criminal Courtroom for further drinks and canapes if requested, or head into the garden for drinks on the lawn.
Stunning, upmarket heritage venue with licensed bar for budget conscious wedding couples.
History
Built by convicts, the Fremantle Courthouse was opened in 1899 comprising two courtrooms, the Civil and the Criminal. The Civil Courtroom was used for marriage ceremonies, along with other civil matters, until its closure in 2001.
The building was fully restored and returned to its former glory in 2021 and now the Civil Courtroom has returned to its original purpose with wedding ceremonies once again taking place. The original Magistrates Bench has been painstakingly restored to feature as a beautiful backdrop to your wedding vows as you become part of its history.
The Criminal Courtroom has also been fully restored, including its dock, where you can stand in the footsteps of former defendants such as Bon Scott and Alan Bond.
A new glass and steel pavilion has been built on the side of the courtrooms overlooking a beautiful beer garden and lawn area, bringing the venue right up to date.
